The PortSHAZ project is dedicated to enhancing sustainability and reducing environmental hazards in port operations. Initiated in 2023 as part of the Interreg South Baltic Programme 2021-2027, this collaborative effort brings together partners from Sweden, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, and Denmark. These countries are united in addressing environmental challenges in port activities and developing innovative solutions.
The primary objectives of the PortSHAZ project include:
- Environmental Impact Mitigation: The project aims to minimize the environmental footprint of port operations, focusing on cargo handling and preventing cargo leakage.
- Development of Technical Solutions: PortSHAZ is committed to creating practical and efficient technical solutions to reduce cargo leakage and enhance overall port operations.
- Knowledge Sharing: A key project component is disseminating up-to-date knowledge and best practices in managing environmental risks in port operations.
- Collaboration and Networking: The project fosters collaboration among ports, stakeholders, and experts, creating a network to share experiences and expertise.
Throughout its duration, the PortSHAZ project has achieved significant milestones. Promoting cross-border collaboration has strengthened international ties and contributed to enhanced environmental protection in the South Baltic Sea Region. The project has paved the way for more sustainable port operations, setting a benchmark for future initiatives.
The project also focuses on ensuring equal opportunities and non-discrimination. It has incorporated principles of gender equality and sustainable development, promoting a fair and inclusive approach throughout its implementation. By addressing environmental and socio-economic disparities, PortSHAZ aims to create a healthier and more sustainable future for the South Baltic Area.
