Project Overview:
The PortSHAZ project aims to address and mitigate environmental hazards associated with dry bulk cargo operations in local and regional ports. Ports are crucial to the European trade and transport ecosystem, and this project underscores the importance of sustainable and environmentally conscious operations.
The main goals of PortSHAZ include:
- Reducing the leakage of dry bulk cargo to protect marine ecosystems, water quality, marine life, and coastal communities.
- Developing and implementing best practices and technical solutions tailored for eco-efficient cargo operations.
- Promoting sustainable port operations to enhance the region’s attractiveness for tourism and trade.
Key Activities:
- Comprehensive Research and Investigation: Identifying existing best practices in dry bulk cargo handling and developing tailored technical solutions.
- Pilot Implementations: Testing developed solutions in selected ports to refine and validate their effectiveness.
- Knowledge Dissemination: Publishing findings and best practices to foster continuous improvement and learning in the maritime sector.
